Sega announced that their new game will be available later this year and promised to deliver the most graphically advanced horror game ever. The Alien franchise films were scary enough so we can expect a real horror survival game. Remember that beast from a film with razor sharp teeth spitting acid that could melt anything. I used to like horrors back then and Alien was one of the films that could make me jump.
Alien Isolation game is meant to be a sequel to the last film in the series. Set fifteen years after the events of Alien which ended with Amanda Ripley being abandoned by her mother. The game intro features the recovery of the Nostromo’s flight recorder. In case you forgot, this spaceship was destroyed in the first film when Ellen Ripley attempted to exterminate the foe. After it has been taken to a space station named Sevastopol, where an alien got loose and started destroying both the equipment and humans.
Amanda Ripley has to follow the exact orders given by her employers Weyland Yutani. All they asked from her was to arrive, collect and leave. As it always happens in a horror, things got complicated and messy, forcing Amanda to extend her visit at Sevastopol. No one can say for certain how many aliens we will see in a game, but it seems that there will be only one. Well one of these is more than enough to turn Amanda’s life into a nightmare. Something is stalking and killing in the shadows of a decommissioned trading space station.
Keeping that in mind and the fact that survival aspect of a game is being developed to the ultimate level, Alien Isolation could as well be the next bet things in 2014. We are so used to survival horror games that almost nothing will scare us anymore. Zombies are great, but they’re just being overused. Aliens on the other hand are rarely found in a survival game. Alien Isolation aims to deliver a persistent fear with its Xenomorph that is said to be truly dynamic and reactive. The basic instinct to use senses in order to hunt the prey down is what makes this alien fearsome.
The survival aspect of Alien Isolation will have it all. Scavenging for resources, crafting items, hacking system and other things that will help you hide. The gameplay could be described as run and hide, unless you are brave enough to face your enemy. We will probably have to face it at one point or another, though the game might surprise us and give an option to blow up the creature from a safe distance. Not sure if that would be a good approach, I would certainly like to try and test my alien killing skills face-to-face.
Sevastopol trading station might be decommissioned, though its inhabitants are still there. Fear and mistrust are the main emotions these people have. It’s a survival game so don’t expect friendly humans. They have been violated for some time now by an evil alien who wants to kill them all. It can see and hear you, make sure you have a good place to hide. Dynamically created enemy whose movements haven’t been pre-scripted will keep you on the edge.
If you love horror survival games, be prepared for the ultimate fearsome experience later this year. The game will be single player only, available on PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
