Alienware Steam Machine looks awesome, though you will need to buy a new one every year if you want it to be up to date.

Their machines won’t be built to support upgrading, the company plans to release a new version each year.
“Lifecycle wise, consoles update every five, six, seven years, we will be updating our Steam Machines every year,” said Azor, adding that “There will be no customization options – you can’t really update it. The platform will continue to evolve as the games become more resource intensive.
We though the whole idea of Steam Machines was to give PC gamers an option to have an upgradeable console. This way users will have to cash out some £429 once a year if they want the newest one. Funny statement from Azor says "If you actually want to customise your Alienware Steam Machine, maybe change your graphics card out or put in a new CPU, you would be better off with the standard Alienware X51.” Suggesting to buy a PC instead.
There will be some configuration options with Alienware Steam Machine, though not enough for serious PC gamers to change their favourite platform as soon as the box comes out. PC will remain the best gaming platform, simply because it can be upgraded for less money and is much more user-friendly at the moment.
