Darkout, a sandbox survival game, is similar to Minecfrat and Terraria, the leading games in the sandbox genre. Developed by Allgraf, the UK Indie developer, Darkout has its own unique features. Trying to survive in a hostile environment is not easy at all. The light is an essence you will need to keep with you at all times, and building a shelter is your first task.

You are left on a dark and mysterious world of Illuna. All other inhabitants went away in a hope to start a new life somewhere else, and while they’re still in orbit your escape pod has been ejected from the shop, in order to try and save lives of those others. Lucky for them, but tough for you because you have to try and survive on Illuna, which has been infested by shadow forces.
Enemies in Darkout game are vulnerable to light, it’s very important to keep the light around yourself at all times. The whole world is covered in darkness, and Tunnel biome is completely dark unless you use a light torch. Without light enemies can’t be harmed at all, and they do tend to sneak upon you to spot acid which will result in an instant death. These evil creatures will have their health regenerating, even while you are attacking them, try to use a pickaxe to defeat them quicker. Unlike them, your health will not regenerate. After a rebirth you will have some 52% of health left, and medicine for improving health is nowhere to be found at the beginning. Except the few tubes that will be in your inventory as soon as you start playing.
It is all about building shelters in Darkout game if you want to survive. To build shelters you will first need to gather resources by digging. Shovel and pickaxe are needed, but there are other tools to research and craft. Crafting and research part could be improved, some sort of a tree-like chart to let us know what’s needed for each item. It is said in an update that those two are already being improved though.
There will also be improvements for tutorial which will be really helpful. I was playing a sandbox survival game for an hour or so before I even figured out why am I digging and dying so much. The tutorial was stuck on a part explaining how to harvest my wrecked escape pod so had to learn things on my own. Well not really, there are wikis with guides which helped a lot, but I found them few hours after I started a game.
The most helpful thing in my inventory, aside from a light torch, was a recoil beacon. If you die you will respawn somewhere away from the spot where you got killed. Could be boring trying to run back to the spot where you were, and this is where recoil beacon comes to the rescue. The beacon is used as a save point. Place it in a place where you would like to go after a rebirth and it will save you a lot of time.
Graphics in a game are pretty, biomes are very detailed. When you dig through a tunnel you will see a rock-like wall being revealed on a spot where dirt once used to be. Enemies are more cartoon-like, similar to those we’ve seen in old platformers. They are unique though, and add to a sci-fi setting resembling aliens we haven’t seen so far. Sound effects were ok, could be improved in some cases such as the noise you get every time you dig a dirt or cobble out. What I really liked was an atmospheric soundtrack which really got me more into a survival mood.
I had fun building my world until early morning hours, and if you like Terraria you should try Darkout game. The game will have updates to give us even better gaming experience, but it is already a lot of fun for sandbox survival addicts.
