Famous fantasy card game from Hasbro will finally be turned into a movie. In fact, there might be more than just one movie. Fox will attempt to launch a massive franchise on the scale of The Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter. This could be the next best fantasy trilogy if they pull their cards right.
To justify the claim of making a huge franchise, Fox announced that Simon Kinberg will produce the adaptation of the game. Kinberg is writer-producer who helped to shape the X-Men and Fantastic Four universes. Besides producing, he will also act as the franchise’s engineer to ensure the development goes smooth. Hasbro’s Daniel Persitz will handle the things from the company’s side. Even Hasbro CEO, Brian Goldberg, will be involved in the production.
Ever since Magic: The Gathering was introduced in 1993, the game was gaining more and more fans. It is known as one of the best collectible card games around the world. This was the game that started it all and lead to card-game adaptations of franchises such as the Pokemon Trading Card Game.
The movie series could be a huge move for the 20th Century Fox, they took a big bite with this one. There is no info on the production start date yet, but they want to create a legendary trilogy such as The Lord of the Rings. Could be several years before the first movie is out. Fox surely knows what they are doing, let’s hope it will be a success of epic proportions. They got cards and have to play them right.
