According to latest report from SuperData, which was released by DigitalRiver, PC dominates a gaming market in year 2013. Gaming market has changed its focus, and more users are turning towards PC as their gaming platform. Could this be a reason why gaming industry is expected to top $93 billion in revenue?!

It is true that numbers of gamers have increased a lot in last few years in PC or Mobile gaming market share, while console market share is still big but decreasing.
This same report by SuperData also suggests that gaming industry could be heading towards a crash similar to one that happened in 1983. The quote from the report states
“Industry veterans will remember the crash of 1983, when the games market was saturated with hardware devices,” the report states. “Today, the industry runs a similar risk, as [with] a higher-than-ever console installed base, consumers may be resistant to adding more hardware to their living rooms.”
Playstation 4 and Xbox One might have a hard time to sell based on the current gaming market situation, and Nintendo Wii U is already going through a drought where it’s having a major lack of sales ever since its launch.
On the other hand, PC gaming firms such as Nvidia and Valve are boosting PC popularity among gamers. Nvidia already spoke of Project Shield, which is a twin-stick handheld based on the firm’s new Tegra 4 mobile chip and Android. Along with that, Steambox reports suggest that Valve is capable to deliver a meaningful machine at an affordable price.
If all this is true, we could witness the big disruption to the console market since Microsoft’s launch of Xbox in year 2001.
This year market share has been dominated by PC with huge 51%, followed by Consoles with 30%, and Mobile at 13%. Could all this be the reason why gaming industry will top revenue of $93 billion, according to Gartner research firm?
This is an impressive new record compared to $10.8 billion revenue from Hollywood’s box office and $32 billion from television royalty fees.
Steam offers good old games for cheap, as well as new ones at affordable prices. Having this in mind, and when Valve delivers a Steam Box, we could see even more gamers turning to PC as a gaming platform.
