Plague Inc has evolved and spreading out the disease, as wrong as it might sound, is even more fun. Extremely realistic strategy simulation game.

World gets pandemic disease every now and again, causing people to start wearing face masks, panic and avoid others. Those are just few elements of Plague Inc Evolved game that was created by Ndemic Creations game development studio, based in London. The game was originally created for mobile devices and got more than 25 million downloads. It was so realistic that CDC done an interview with James Vaughan, the founder of Ndemic Creations. Following the success, developer released a PC version which is now available through Steam Early Access.
You are writing your own story in a game. Decide the country where you want to infect patient-zero and work on killing humanity by controlling symptoms, ways of transmission and abilities of your pathogen. The goal is always the same, kill the entire world’s population to win the game. At least as the main game is concerned, official and custom scenarios are still work in progress. It will be interesting to see how challenging scenarios will be, not that the game lacks any challenge even now. Will there be selected countries in this mode? At the moment the whole world map is available with any pathogen you decide to go with, and some variety in that aspect would be welcomed.
Tutorial isn’t available yet, though it is not really necessary as you will get a good idea of gameplay as soon as you start with very first pathogen, and there are also tips that will help you get familiar with your mission to destroy humanity. Bacteria is the first pathogen you will use to become a super villain, and the only one available at start. Each time one pathogen has been used to successfully complete the game, the next one will unlock.
Facts regarding each country can be seen within that country’s window. Knowing basic things about world countries is an advantage, for instance infecting patient-zero in a poor country has a lot more chance to spread than if you have chosen one of the rich countries with good health care. Spreading the plague is important to get DNA points needed to evolve your pathogen. Use them wisely and choose which transmission media, symptoms and abilities should be enhanced. Some symptoms will evolve without your help and that is not always a good thing.
Once your plague starts spreading and evolving new symptoms, authorities will start to take notice and being to work on the cure. Devolving symptoms is sometimes necessary, especially with carriers such as Fungus that spread very slow. Keep symptoms at minimum and there will be no trouble infecting every single human being on Earth. Other times, it will cost too much to devolved symptoms and you will have to figure out a different strategy to beat the game.
Realistic as it is, Plague Inc Evolved requires studying pathogen’s abilities in order to spread it around the world. Virus, for instance is aggressive in real life and can cause different symptoms, making it hard to control. That same problem is featured in a game, thus trying different strategies is the key to success. Each carrier has its own strengths and abilities, and that requires developing a new strategy.
Visually the game looks like a laboratory with all those ugly looking features, same as it would look like if you studied any disease through microscope. The world map is accurate and infected areas are represented with red or orange dots, letting you know how close you are at killing the Earth. As wrong as it may seem, seeing a whole world covered with red dots increases the fun factor. Camera feeds can be seen by opening any country, letting you enjoy the street view, though it has been fully developed yet. World news will pop-up often, with most of them being related to events that happened in last few years. Unique soundtrack works well with killing the world. Sounds are scarce, you will hear an odd coughing and not much else, and this could be improved with added audio elements.
Plague Inc Evolved plays good for an Early Access game, but having more pathogens that require different strategy would make a significant improvement to gaming experience. The game uses real world data and for that it is worth purchasing on Steam, though it will be even better when the Zombie pathogen becomes available. Mobile version might be free, but PC is still the best gaming platform and it will be a significant improvement when multiplayer mode goes live. I haven’t heard of Plague Inc until I saw it on Steam and I rarely go for Early Access games, but this one stood out as a different simulation title. One of the creepiest games I have played, yet it got me addicted until I figured out how to kill the world with every single carrier available.
