Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment announced the reimagined Gauntlet game. The famous title has been released in 1985 by Atari and was one of the first multi-player dungeon crawl arcade games. The revamped version will come with a completely new look and features such as local and online four-player modes. Once again, gamers will be able to choose from four different classic characters including Thor the Warrior, Merlin the Wizard, Thyra the Valkyrie and Questor the Elf.
Upon selecting a character the gameplay is set within dungeons with a goal of finding and touching the specified exit. Each level contains various special items which increase player’s health, unlock doors and more. The whole setting is fantasy themed, even enemies like demons and grunts, with the most dangerous one being Death. Rather difficult to defeat and has an ability to drain player’s entire health. This is what games used to be in those days, challenging and kept us going on for days.
"To us at Arrowhead, Gauntlet is one of the most defining games from our childhoods, and it's amazing to be able to work with Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment on a brand new version," Johan Pilestedt, CEO of Arrowhead, said. "Gauntlet is one of the original and best known video game properties and we are looking forward to creating a fresh, yet true to the original, take on a multiplayer masterpiece."
Gauntlet used to be unique arcade game and we cannot wait to see what a redesigned version will play like. Some later instalments were released for the Xbox, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 2 and received generally positive feedback.
Gameplay trailer looks promising and it could be that we will be able to enjoy one of the best old games with our friends very soon.
