Most people buy already made Apple Pie, but making a pie from scratch is easy and you will be sure it contains only fresh ingredients. You can shape it any way you like, munch on that perfect crust and enjoy a healthy dessert whenever you feel like having something sweet. Sweet or sour apples can be used, and you can decorate the top with some more apples. I bake this pie at least once a month during winter. It is simply delicious.
Apple Pie Pastry Ingredients:
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 2 sticks of butter (unsalted)
- 1 tbsp white sugar
- 6 tbsp water
Apple Pie Pastry Directions:
- Cut butter into little cubes.
- Add flour, butter, sugar and salt in a food processor and run it until ingredients blend into a crumbly mixture.
- Add 1 tbsp of water at time and pulse food processor after each addition. The mixture should held together in the end.
- Spread some flour over a clean surface and knead a dough. You should make two round discs.
- Wrap dough in a plastic foil and let it rest in a fridge for at least 1 hour.
Apple Pie Filling Ingredients:
- ½ cup white sugar
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 6 Granny Smith apples
- 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
- ½ cup ground walnuts
- ½ tsp ground cinnamon
- 2 tsp lemon juice
- 1 egg
Apple Pie Filling Directions:
- Combine brown sugar, white sugar, lemon, flour, cinnamon, walnuts in a bowl and mix until ingredients blend in.
- Rinse, peel, slice apples and add them in mixture. Stir until apples look well coated.
Apple Pie Directions:
- Preheat oven to 220C.
- Take dough out of a fridge and allow it to come to room temperature (5-10 minutes).
- Spread some flour over a clean surface and roll out a dough into a 12 inch round disc.
- Place it in a 9 inch pie tray and mildly press evenly on the sides.
- Spoon out the filling into pie crust.
- Roll out the second disc and create a top for your pie. Trim edges and add the excess of a dough on top, or you can freeze it for the next time.
- Beat a whole egg and glaze the top of a pie.
- Place a pie in the oven and bake for 35 to 40 minutes, until golden brown.
- Take the pie out and let it cool for at least an hour before cutting into slices.
Serve with whipped cream or ice cream.
