Skyrim, the game of modders, is an epic RPG that wouldn’t be so amazing without mods. Mods are great and make this game much more enjoyable.

There are thousands of mods for Skyrim that can be found for free. Every aspect of this game has a mod or two to make it more fun. Improved UI, combat and even new places to explore can be found by using mods. Choosing the best mod is hard with so many awesome ones out there.
Bethesda done a good job with Skyrim, but it’s modders who keep the game alive and players addicted. The best mods have been chosen by players’ voted and popularity. Most voted, most downloaded and those that I find interesting are included on the list.
The most popular Skyrim mod by far. SkyUI improves User Interface by making it nicer to look at and easier to use. The mod aims to change areas that could do with an improvement. It is not meant to re-create the complete interface from scratch. This way, developers integrate the beautified UI, while leaving the base design intact. If you are a Skyrim fan and would like to see your UI more appealing, than install SkyUI and enjoy the better gaming experience.
Going on a Bear Hunt: Michael Rosen in Skyrim
Michael Rosen mod comes with some 400 lines of unique dialogue based on various conditions. Rosen works in the same way as other followers in Skyrim. Give him commands, trade and dismiss. He can be found in the Bards College in Solitude, just go upstairs after installing this mod and you can’t miss Michael. Might not be a famous mod, but definitely makes Skyrim more interesting.
Skyrim HD - 2K Textures
Skyrim HD is a project for texture enhancement. It provides much bigger resolution than the original game, bigger even that the Bethesda HD DLC. You will need a lot of graphics card memory to run the mod, though it also comes in a LITE version which takes 50% of space and still gives enhanced resolution. It simply makes Skyrim more appealing. Over 8 million downloads means that developer done a good job. Worth trying if your graphics card can handle it.
A Quality World Map – With Roads
This one enhances a World Map, which is normally not very fun to look at. With better textures and detailed roads, A Quality World Map shows accurate locations. Developer walked along every single one while he was drawing them. Created for those players who want their Skyrim game to be more detailed so they could see their current location on a map. A must for any hardcore gamer.
What is RPG game without interesting NPCs?! Designed to add colour and life to Skyrim through 3D characters, where each NPC has been seamlessly integrated into an existing world. Every NPC comes complete with a backstory and a large dialogue three that can be explored. Over 80 voice actors gave their voice to these unique characters. Depending on your choices, you can even role-play with these NPCs. Conversations are deep and sometimes humorous.
Even Better Quest Objectives
Now this is something I definitely must install. Better Quest Objectives enhances the quest descriptions in the vanilla game. By doing so, the mod will give you a good idea of where you are supposed to go and what you should do on the way. Sounds perfect for someone like me, who doesn’t bother reading every single line when it appears on the screen. This way it might all be available for later read, so I don’t walk around like a headless chicken trying to figure out what have I missed.
Frostfall is the ultimate roleplaying survival mod. Three main components which are cold water survival, hypothermia and camping equipment will add immersive level into your Skyrim experience, while at the same time making sure you are still having fun. Frostfall will track your location, time of day, weather and more to learn about your current condition. Making fires and trying not to freeze to death is what you can except after installing this one. Strongly recommended for hardcore realism players.
Cerwiden is the first of configurable AI followers. She has a custom backstory and quest content and has been fully voiced for better experience. Early mage companions had so much limitations in Skyrim, to change that modders started creating a new breed of followers that were smart and customizable. Cerwiden is one of them, highly configurable companions in a game. Don’t get too excited while configuring this character, just customize her to suit your play style. She has smart AI and will heal you when needed. What more could you ask from a follower.
OK, this mod is huge. More like a DLC than a mod, but worth installing since it gives 20+ hours of gameplay. It adds a completely new worldspace to the existing world of Skyrim. The game itself is huge and with Falskaar you get a gigantic world to explore. New land comes with new quests, more than 25 of those. I certainly cannot wait to try Falskaar. Oh, it is fully voiced too and comes complete with new everything.
Moonpath to Elsweyr
Elsweyr is an entirely new world that can be added to Skyrim. Jungles and deserts, with distinct inhabitants and quests that offer unique enemies. Thirteen different areas have been added to this mod in a variety of sizes and styles. Journey through tropical forests and deep desert that can be reached from Dead Mans Drink Inn in Falkreath. You will see the barn, enter it and follow the Moonpath. For those players who would like additional quests and different maps.
I have done my best to include the most interesting and most useful mods. It is impossible to pack all of them into one article. With a bit of luck I will have one new mod a day to write about.
Thanks to Iain for helping with Skyrim mods and getting me addicted to a game.
