Star Trek Online has some interesting ships with an amazing design and functionality. Some ships can be obtained through levelling player’s character, though the most interesting ones are harder to get.

Whether you are an engineer, scientist, or a tactical officer in a Star Trek Online game, you will want at least one of the most interesting ships in your fleet. Bridges with awesome captain’s chair are just too good to be missed.
Customizing a ship can be fun for both cosmetics and functionality. Default design of a new ship can look good, but you will want to customize it to your preference. After obtaining a new ship and giving it a mighty name, you will want to check the bridge to see what can be changed. Some bridges can be bought through a Z-Store (a.k.a. C-Store) and you will need ZEN for those. Let’s have a look at the most interesting ships by design.
Tholian Recluse Carrier
Tholian Recluse Carrier can be obtained from the Lobi Crystal Consortium or from the Exchange. Flying this ship feels like flying a fortress, it is almost impossible to kill it. Widow fighters are default hangar bay items and these are equipped with tetryon beams. The most interesting aspect of a Carrier is its bridge. Tholians are spider-like creatures therefor the bridge looks like some sort of a grid. It even has a console in the centre, but all in all this one will make you dizzy if you look around. Tholian Recluse Carrier is great for healers, when set in a right way it can endure enemy attacks for a long time.
Jem’Hadar Dreadnought Carrier
The largest ship in the Dominion fleet can be great for killing enemies. Add Jem’Hadar bugs to its hangar bays and annoy other players to the maximum. This ship has an incredible hull strength and large shield capacity, with an amazing offensive abilities for a carrier. Lobi Crystal Consortium or Exchange are the places to go and get your super powerful ship. The only ship designed for tanking and dps at the same time. Tactical officers like a Jem’Hadar Dreadnought for they’re not so squishy anymore.
Ferengi D’Kora Marauder
It’s a Ferengi ship thus playing a Dabo is possible only on this one. The ship’s interior has several features such as bank, exchange, and mail. These are normally not available on any other ship that can be taken into a fight. Might not be the best choice for a combat, but it certainly provides all necessary consoles so you won’t have to leave the ship in order to get items required for some missions. Dabo table is the best thing about this ship, and it is complete with a holographic Leeta. D’Kora can be used as tank/dps ship as well.
Tal Shiar Adapted Destroyer
The design of Adapted Destroyer is based on the Dhelan Warbird and adapted with an advanced Borg technology. Bit slower than the Dhelan, but more resilient and with powerful technology. The Adapted Borg warp Core, which comes with a ship, gives enhanced hull regeneration and auxiliary power. RCS Accelerator is recommended to use with a ship as its turn rate is slightly slower. Science and tactical officers enjoy this one because it is capable to do lots of damage, along with high auxiliary power.
Jem’Hadar Attack Ship
Also known as the Bug ship that is fast, highly manoeuvrable and deals more damage than you would except for a ship as small as the bug. The turn rate is one of the highest seen in Star Trek Online, but this bug is also more resilient than most other tactical ones. Jem’Hadar Attack Ship can be gained from Duty Officer Packs, when the promotion is on, or bought on the exchange. The priciest ship you will see in a game got a nickname “bug” because it looks like one.
Wells Temporal Science Vessel
The Wells Temporal Science Vessel has a unique look among Star Trek Online ships, with its distinct wing-like projections and a tapered pointed nose. This ship performs well in several roles, so can be used by either officer, though it’s best for the scientists. Even a tanking can be achieved with this vessel if you trigger the right set of abilities combined with a Temporal Backstep ability which is unique to the ship. This is simply the most versatile ship you will find in a game.
Kar’Fi Battle Carrier
The Kar’Fi Battle Carrier is one of the hardest ships to manoeuvre in Star Trek Online. The addition of a fourth forward weapon makes this ship a powerful carrier that usable by Klingon players. There is also a fifth Tactical bridge officer slot, though the ship is too slow to be used by a serious tactical player. The design takes much of a Fek’Ihri ships making a carrier rather unique for a Klingon ship. 2000 ZEN is all that it takes to buy this beast from a store.
Guramba Siege Destroyer
Obtainable through the C-Store, the Guramba is a Nausicaan warship with added elements from some other vessels such as the Talon Battleship. Its unique Siege Mode will boost weapons and shield power significantly. Highly offensive Klingon ship, but also very squishy. Survivability rate isn't high with this one unless you enter the Siege Mode sacrificing speed and turn rate. While in this mode, using a Javelin will combine all your weapons into a one huge power. Visual effects are also good here.
Intrepid Class Long Range Science Vessel
An advanced science vessel with a lot of kick. The Intrepid class was the most technologically advanced among its kind in 2371. Used mostly by science players, but also by engineers as an alternative to the Exploration Cruiser due to its versatility. Sub-targeting system of the Intrepid will give a headache to any opponent. Balance, power, manoeuvrability and survivability make this little thing highly popular ship in Star Trek Online.
This is just my opinion on the most interesting ships in Star Trek Online, and it is certainly not a definite list. Every player has their own play style and prefers one ship over the other. With new ships constantly being added to the game, we are sure to see some that will overpower all of the above.
Thanks to Nexus for helping with ships’ description.
