The game aims to re-imagine a classic genre, as Yasumi puts together one of the epic worlds that he is known for. Players will know him for creating a vibrating game world, with intense tactical gameplay found in titles such as Final Fantasy Tactics and Vagrant Story. You can imagine how beautiful this new world will be once Matsuno puts all his genuine ideas into a design.
The concept of the Unsung story is about stories that lie forgotten behind the veil of history. The Story takes place in Rasfalia, following heroes who fought in the Seventy-Seven Years War. Each hero will have their own episode dedicated to tell their story. Each episode will comprise of several stages, and will describe a part of the War.
Intrigue, betrayal, warfare, espionage and alliances are all parts of the Unsung Story. History remembers heroes, but there are other characters behind them who made it possible for someone to become a hero in the first place. This game will reveal them as well, they are the unsung ones who have been long forgotten.
Player will connect with these less known characters through their decisions and experiences by living the events through their eyes.
Gameplay will be turn-based combat RPG across a great epoch. Research and find out more about the Rasfalia history that nearly tore the world apart. From one battle to another, player will take an important part, influencing intertwined history of the game’s world.
“History is written by winners, and tells the tales of heroes. But where there are winners, there are losers, and wars are not won by heroes alone. Behind the veil of history, there are countless stories that lie forgotten. Reliving these hidden tales is the concept behind the Unsung Story.”
Battles and world map are all in 3D, with an immersive player controlled camera. The world is detailed to the perfection, but we wouldn’t expect anything less from Yasumi Matsuno.
The Unsung Story has launched on Kickstarter few days ago, with a goal of reaching $600,000 through crowd-funding. If everything goes well, we will be able to enjoy another great RPG turn-based combat games like The Banner Saga was.
