Zynga won this battle in the High Court after Mattel argued that Scramble With Friends app infringed on the toy maker’s trademark of Scrabble, the game known as one of the best ways to turn the action of forming words into a passive-aggressive, violent affair.
The judge of High Court ruled in favour of Zynga concerning the name dispute, but sided with Mattel regarding the app’s logo. He did say that it gives the impression that the word is Scrabble when you look at it quickly.
Alan Hilowitz, Mattel’s spokesperson, stated that “company is disappointed that the court did not rule that Zynga should cease using the Scramble name, which Mattel intends to appeal”.
Zynga has also recently shut down four of its games and even the website for Draw Something creator OMGPOP.
